Foša: A Historic Port in the Heart of Zadar

Foša is a historic port located along the Zadar coast, near famous landmarks such as the Sea Organ and the Greeting to the Sun. This small but extremely important port has a deep historical significance and served as a key defensive and commercial center of the city for years.
The name “Foša” comes from the Italian word “fossa”, meaning ditch, and refers to the deep channel that once surrounded the city center, facilitating its defense. Foša was protected in the past by impressive defensive walls and towers, some of which, like the Peškarija Tower, have survived to this day.
Today, Foša is a peaceful and picturesque place that attracts many visitors. The harbor is home to a number of traditional fishing boats, and nearby are numerous cafes and restaurants serving authentic Dalmatian cuisine. Foša is also a favorite place for leisurely walks, with beautiful views of the sea and nearby historical buildings.
In addition to its beauty, Foša is a symbol of Zadar’s rich maritime tradition. The proximity to the city and the combination of past and present make it one of the most favorite corners of Zadar for both locals and tourists.
